BOC-Approved Continuing Education (CE) is designed to support and streamline your ongoing professional development in your field of certification. BOC CE requirements follow a five-year cycle, giving you a long, flexible time-window in which to plan around your work schedule. Certificants enter their own CEUs online through MyBOC, their personal web portal.

CE requirements for all certification programs are listed below.

Ensuring your knowledge and proficiency

With BOC certification, you have demonstrated your hard work in gaining experience, technical knowledge and skill to the highest standards of quality and competency. You are expected to uphold these standards by committing to professional growth through continuing education.

Credits may be earned in two broad categories:

• Category I continuing education units, or CEUs, include coursework regarding the scientific or technical aspects of your practice.
• Category II CEUs encompass training specific to your business practices.

Wide variety of eligible certification activities

You may earn CE credit hours through participation in a wide variety of educational and training activities relevant to your field of practice. Examples of these activities include structured educational or training courses, informal seminars, independent studies of professional or academic journals, and industry trade shows. Please note that for exhibit hall credits earned at a trade show, you may receive .25 CEU for visiting one exhibitor and up to 5 CEUs (or 20 exhibitors) may be awarded per year.

The directory of BOC Approved CE Courses provides a clear, reliable way for you to identify, locate and schedule structured learning experiences and other activities that will help satisfy your CE obligations. Attending a BOC-Approved CE Course offers you the convenience of direct reporting of your CEUs by the course provider. You also have the option of earning CEUs from other resources as well.

CE Requirements

CE requirements are assessed according to a uniform, recurrent five-year cycle. The current cycle began 1/1/2010. BOC certificants are required to earn the number of CEUs assigned to each certification category, and to maintain proper documentation of CEUs earned. Documentation is due to BOC by the end of each CE cycle.

The chart below details the five-year CE cycle requirements for each certification program, applicable to BOC practitioners who are certified at the start of the cycle.

*Certificants who earn more CEUs than they need may carry over a limited number of CEUs into the next cycle.

Multiple certifications:
BOC certificants with more than one certification only have to meet the CEU requirements for the certification with the highest total.

Example: If you are certified as an orthotist and a prosthetist, the total CEUs required would be 75, not 150. If you are certified as a pedorthist and an orthotic fitter, the total CEUs required would be 55, not 95.
