How do I submit my continuing education units (CEUs) to BOC?
If you attend a BOC-approved course or event, the sponsoring company or organization will submit the attendance records directly to our office. As a practitioner, you are ultimately responsible for the maintaining the accuracy of your CEU record. Be sure to keep a record of your successfully completed CE activities on file for the duration of each continuing education(CE) Cycle. BOC accepts CEUs for events not pre-approved by BOC, as long as they comply with our policies.

To qualify for CEUs, the continuing education activity must be related to treatment methods, technologies, devices or developments in your field of practice; business or ethical issues related to maintaining a professional practice; or other subjects directly relevant to the practice of providing professional service to your patient population.

For more details, please review pages four through six of our Recertification Policy.

How can I find out which courses qualify for CEUs?
View current BOC Approved CE Opportunities.

BOC accepts non-pre-approved CEUs for courses and events involving content within your field of practice. To receive credit from BOC for these courses and/or events, please submit by fax, email or mail documentation regarding the name and date of the course, proof of your attendance, and how many CEUs should be awarded. Documentation may be submitted by email to ce@bocusa.org, faxed to 410.753.8809, or sent to our mailing address, attention “Continuing Education.” CEUs for non-pre-approved courses are subject to BOC review and approval. Please review pages four through six of our Recertification Policy for more details.

How can I find out how many CEUs I have confirmed with BOC?
Your CEU record is available on your account, accessible by logging into our website. Once you are logged in, click on “CEUs” on the left navigation pane. The CEU record will default to show you the CEUs you have earned in the current cycle, plus how many CEUs are needed to fulfill your CE Cycle requirements. You can also view your previous CEU records from older CE Cycles, if applicable.

If you are having trouble logging into your account, our certification team can help you with your login name and/or password. Please call 877.776.2200 to speak with a certification coordinator.

What should I do if I have missing CEUs?
If you do not see all of your earned CEUs reflected online, please submit your course or event documentation, including your course certificate and/or proof of attendance. Documentation may be submitted by email to ce@bocusa.org, faxed to 410.753.8809, or sent to our mailing address, attention “Continuing Education.” For more information, see details on pages four through six of our Recertification Policy.

What are Category I and Category II credits?
Category I credit hours are qualifying activities related to the scientific, professional and/or technical aspects of your certified field of study. A minimum of 80% of your total CEUs are required to be Category I credit hours.

Category II credit hours are qualifying activities related to business management in your certified field of study. A maximum of 20% of your total CEUs can be Category II credit hours.

What are the CEU requirements?
CEU requirements run on a five-year cycle. The current cycle runs from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2014. If you were certified as of December 31, 2009, the following credit amounts are required to be completed and verified by the end of the current CE Cycle:

What if I have more than one BOC certification? Do I have to meet CEU requirements for both?
BOC certificants with multiple certifications only have to meet the CEU requirements for the certification with the highest total. For example, an individual who is certified as an orthotist and a mastectomy fitter would have to meet the CEU requirements for an orthotist, which is 75 CEUs over a five-year cycle.
