BOC’s New Live, Remote Proctored Testing Option Now Available

The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) launched a new live, remote proctored testing option, enabling certification candidates to complete their exams online–using their home or office computer–and earn BOC certification.

Delivered by BOC test partner, PSI, the remote proctored testing option allows BOC certification candidates to take their Orthotic Fitter (COF), Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) or Durable Medical Equipment Specialist (CDME) certification exams from a location of their choice. Adding a remote proctored testing option was a 2020 BOC initiative that was expedited in response to the global health pandemic. And, while some PSI testing locations have re-opened, BOC is confident this new testing option will be welcomed by many candidates.

“Live, remote proctored testing gives candidates the opportunity to take exams conveniently from their homes or offices,” says Matthew Gruskin, MBA, BOCO, BOCPD, BOC’s credentialing director. “This is a great option for certification candidates who cannot access an open testing location, or who wish to minimize potential exposure to COVID-19.”

To leverage this new testing option, candidates must meet PSI’s system requirements, which include having a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, microphone, speakers and a stable broadband internet connection. A full list of requirements, as well as a system compatibility check tool, is available on the Frequently Asked Questions page of PSI’s website under “PSI Web Delivery – Remotely Proctored.”

To take a live, remote proctored exam, certification candidates should select “remote online proctored exam” when scheduling their appointment on PSI’s website. For BOC media inquiries, please contact Judi Knott, MA, MBA, BOC’s chief strategy and marketing officer, at Judi.Knott@bocusa.org.
