Lymphedema/Compression Accreditation

Why DMEPOS Accreditation?

CMS has released their final rule regarding the implementation of the Lymphedema Treatment Act, which outlines how they intend to begin covering compression garments and related accessories for patients diagnosed with lymphedema.

Effective January 1, 2024, Medicare Part B will cover a new benefit category for lymphedema compression treatment items for patients diagnosed with lymphedema who have a prescription for the compression supplies, such as:

  • custom and standard fit daytime garments (3 sets every 6 months)
  • custom and standard fit nighttime garments (2 sets every 2 years)
  • custom and standard fit gradient compression wraps with adjustable straps
  • bandaging supplies
  • related accessories

HCPCS Codes:

  • CMS is creating 57 new HCPCS codes to better represent additional lymphedema related compression products.
  • CMS is creating 9 additional new A-codes to replace 9 existing S-codes (S8420-S8428) that currently represent compression sleeves, gloves, gauntlets, wraps, and bandages.
